Downrigger User Guide
Using a Downrigger
Controlled depth fishing lets you get your lure where the fish are, and keep it there. Cannon Downriggers are designed to make the whole process as effortless as possible, so you can spend more time fishing.
Here’s how they work:
Attach and lower
To rig, attach the weight (or Cannonball) to the cable, and use a “line release” to attach the weight to the line. Place the rod in the rod holder and lower the weight to your desired depth.
Down with the weight
While trolling, the weight of the Cannonball keeps your lure at your desired depth and allows it to “swim” more naturally behind the weight. On some Cannon Downriggers, you can cycle the weight up or down, or keep it a set distance from the bottom.
Line Release
Once a fish takes the lure, the line release lets go of the line and the fish is on.
Remove and reel
After you see that the fish is on, remove the rod from the rod holder and reel in your catch.
